Hand carved, traced n graced Trajan Caps. Started in 2019. Originally going to be a birdbath but I had popped through the other side on the first drill hole in the middle. Then I thought I'd turn it into a wheel - perhaps an obvious choice! The words are the Latin for My Strength Is In The Wheel, which is the motto of the town of Carrara in Italy. They used to carry the stone on carts to the local port and the carts had wheels hence FORTITUDO MEA IN ROTA! I think of it as a concept piece - an homage to the quarries of Carrara where a whole lot of the marble for many classical sculptures came from.... God's strength to Italy and the world! Aren't we going through it... be safe. Finished on Friday 13th March 2020. Must be lucky, right?! Wheel of time!
